How do you approach creating an open world Sanctuary for Diablo IV? This session walks through the Environment Art development process for Exterior Art—including an overview of Environment Art Direction pillars, Level Art, Architecture, and Materials. The artists talk about processes and challenges unique to Diablo IV, such as developing for an isometric camera, performance considerations, and establishing cohesion throughout a sprawling open world.
Attendees will learn Diablo IV's Environment Art's team's response to the challenge of creating open world: Taking the huge environment art responsibility and dividing it into pieces that individuals can specialize into and own–creating sub-disciplines such as Foliage Art, Architecture, Materials, and Level Art. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of these sub-disciplines and how they collaborate through the lens of Diablo IV's environment art direction. Finally, they will gain perspective on Diablo IV's solutions to working with such a large and highly skilled team distributed across timezones and countries.
This is for anyone interested in learning more about AAA Environment Art production or the Art Direction and development process of the Environment Art of Diablo IV's open-world.
